As a Cubase or Nuendo user, you know a good tool when you hear one. Tonalic comes from Celemony, the makers of Melodyne, and lives in the Right Zone of your project, where it plays to your song.
Tonalic is a new way to produce music. Real session musicians, recorded in studios around the world, played the performances, and the Tonalic Engine reshapes them to your song's chords, tempo and groove. Build expressive arrangements, try variations, and shape your music while the song is still moving. Fast, intuitive and always musical.
Producer Ian Kirkpatrick (Dua Lipa, Sabrina Carpenter) opens Tonalic in Cubase and builds a track with it on camera: real studio performances by session players, reshaped to his chords, tempo and groove while the song plays. Filmed with Tonalic studio: with Tonalic essential you work the same way, starting with Uwe Bossert's guitars, and the other players are one upgrade away.

Cubase Pro 15, Cubase Artist 15 and Nuendo 15 come with Tonalic essential: a curated collection of acoustic and electric guitars, performed and produced by Uwe Bossert, guitarist of the the pop-rock band Reamonn. Studio-grade and made for professional productions, from the first idea to the final mix, and just as much at home in songwriting and quick arrangements. It includes the full Tonalic Engine with chord, tempo and groove adaptation. Your license is perpetual and can be upgraded to the larger edition at any time.

Real musicians playing real instruments, shaped to your chords, tempo and groove. It feels like a session player responding to your track, full of nuance, intention and life. In a real session, the take is finished the moment it is played. Tonalic reshapes the same performance instead, so your arrangement stays open right up to the last minute.

Tonalic opens in the Right Zone, right beside your song, and previews against it. When you're ready, drop a Tonalic onto your timeline, where you place, extend and arrange it like the audio and MIDI tracks you already know. The musical adaptation happens in the background, chords, tempo and feel lock in automatically, so you stay in the flow and keep creating.

Tonalic essential comes bundled with Cubase Pro 15, Cubase Artist 15 and Nuendo 15, and gives you signature guitar performances by Uwe Bossert for your Pop and Rock tracks. It is a full edition with the complete engine, and everything you build with it carries over when you upgrade. Preview Tonalics from the larger edition and move up whenever you want more musicians and more instruments.

Start with the welcome film: it explains what Tonalic essential is and what comes with it. The workflow film then goes deeper into arranging with Tonalic in Cubase and Nuendo, from the Right Zone to a finished arrangement. It was shot with Tonalic studio, and Tonalic essential works the same way. The other tutorials were filmed in other DAWs, so the concepts apply everywhere and only the first step, opening Tonalic, differs.

No. Tonalic works from real studio recordings and reshapes them using Celemony's DNA technology. No audio is synthesised. Everything you hear comes from a recording made by the musician credited, reshaped to fit your song. It is not MIDI either: the performances are audio.
Tonalic essential is a full edition, not a demo or a trial. You get the complete Tonalic Engine and a curated collection of acoustic and electric guitars by Uwe Bossert. Bass, drums, percussion and the other musicians live in Tonalic arranger, and note-level editing with the Refine page and the sound controls live in Tonalic studio. Everything you build with essential carries over when you upgrade.
Yes. In Cubase and Nuendo, Tonalic reads the chord track directly, so whatever you set there is what the performance plays. Change the chords three weeks later and the same performance follows.
Tonalic essential is included with Cubase Pro 15, Cubase Artist 15 and Nuendo 15 at no extra cost, and the licence is perpetual: it does not expire, and there is no subscription attached to it. You redeem your voucher in MySteinberg and create a free Tonalic account to activate it. The larger editions, Tonalic arranger and Tonalic studio, are available as a monthly or annual subscription, or as prepaid licences through music dealers, whenever you want more musicians and instruments.
An internet connection is needed to search for and download Tonalics and to verify your licence. Once the content is on your disk you can work offline, and the engine does all the reshaping locally, on your own machine.
Yes. Every Tonalic performance is 100% royalty-free in all commercial uses, with no clearance required.
